Academic Audit
The University of Otago is periodically reviewed by the NZ Universities Academic Audit Unit (NZUAAU). Audits have been carried out in 1996, 2000, and 2006 and the University was audited again in 2011. The following table shows the themes for these Academic Audits:
| 2011 | Whole of Institution Audit (all NZ universities) |
|---|---|
| 2006 | Institutional Audit focusing on teaching quality, programme delivery and the achievement of learning outcomes (all NZ universities) |
| 2000 | Research & Postgraduate Teaching (National theme) Internal & External Communication Systems (Otago theme) |
| 1996 | Whole of Institution Audit (all NZ universities) |
After each Audit the AAU publishes an Audit Report. This is a public document and can be downloaded below. Contact the Quality Advancement unit for a hard copy (see details at the bottom of this page).

Self Review, Quality Portfolio, Improvements
In preparation for each audit, the University undertakes a Self Review to assess, in consultation with staff and students, how well the University is performing in those areas being audited. As part of the Self Review, the University develops a Quality Portfolio that summarises its response to each audit area. This document is the starting point for the AAU's academic audit of the University. (To request a hard copy of the 2006 Portfolio, use the contact below. Self Review investigations and Audit Report recommendations lead to Improvement Initiatives to enhance areas identified as important to the quality of the University's teaching, learning, research and community service.
