Journeys of Discovery - PhD Graduates Reflect on their Experiences

Graduate Research Services and The Quality Advancement Unit invite PhD candidates, prospective PhD students and supervisors to attend this Quality Forum where recent University of Otago PhD graduates will talk about their experience as PhD candidates.

The successful completion of a PhD is a journey of discovery. It is an exciting journey into the uncharted territory of new knowledge and it is often a journey towards self-discovery.  Recent graduates will share stories and reflections from their journeys and provide current doctoral candidates with ideas and strategies to assist them in their own intrepid journey.

A panel of four Otago PhD graduates from a variety of disciplines will share their experiences as former PhD candidates with the audience. They will talk about how they approached their degree, how they overcame challenges they faced and what they would have done differently with the benefit of hindsight.
Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to ask questions of the panel, before enjoying a few drinks and nibbles.

Convenor: Dr Charles Tustin, Director, Graduate Research Services
Date:  Thursday 18 August
Time:  3:00 to 4.30 pm
Location: Gazebo Lounge, Union Building.
Drinks and nibbles provided

The Forum was a success as approximately 70 staff members and students attended the presentation.

The Forum was also streamed live. For the first time on campus, the live-streaming was coupled with the possibility for viewers to ask questions from the presenters via twitter and facebook.

The Forum was also recorded and will be made available on Unitube as soon as possible.
