Fiordland Wilderness Experiences
Friday
Meet at the Unipol Recreation Centre at 4.00pm and drive to Manapouri where you'll stay at the Lakeview Motel & Motor Park for the night. Dinner will be takeaways en route or bring your own food from home.
Saturday
Up, have breakfast and be ready at the launch point by 8.30am where you meet your guide for some kayak instruction, pack the kayaks and set off for a glorious day's paddling. Lunch is at a sheltered beach of your choice. Saturday night is spent camping on the beach, in the nearby bush or in a local hut.
Sunday
Spend the second day paddling on the lake visiting secluded beaches and checking out the birdlife. Again, find a lunch spot of your choice before heading back to Manapouri by late afternoon. Sort out the gear, and stop for refreshments to reminisce on your trip before driving back to Dunedin, either having some food before leaving or stopping off for dinner en route and arriving around 9.00pm.
PLEASE NOTE: Weather conditions determine final paddling itinerary and is determined by the guides with group safety paramount!!!
Transport, accommodation on Friday night (shared, mixed, bunkroom style), breakfast & lunch Saturday and Sunday, dinner Saturday night, kayaks and equipment, kayak clothing (e.g. wetsuits, jackets, fleece tops, polypropylene clothing, hats) kayaking guide, cookers and cooking equipment, tents and sleeping mats. Waterproof bags for your personal gear are provided, plus a special waterproof bag for your camera.
As our Recreation Services facilitator will not be accompanying the group while kayaking, it is expected that the group will work together to prepare meals, do dishes and give general assistance over the trip. Recreation Services will provide menus ideas for the group.
You will be carrying any gear with you in your kayak so please pack conservatively.
Food - Money for meals on Friday and Sunday nights & refreshments, snacks for Saturday and Sunday (e.g. dried fruit, scroggin, energy bars, chocolate etc).
Clothing and kayak gear - All kayak gear and kayak clothing is provided. You will need to bring neoprene booties or book them, at no charge, from Recreation Services before you leave. Bring warm clothing to change into for camping on Saturday night (a warm long sleeved top and leggings are recommended). Please be prepared for all possible weather conditions for this trip e.g.: sun, snow, wind, rain and hail.
General - water-resistant sunblock, insect repellent, sunglasses, towel, sleeping bag, torch, plate, mug, cutlery, personal medication and first aid supplies, toiletries (minimum required), camera or waterproof disposable camera, water bottle. Please feel free to bring CDs for the van.

There will be a pre-trip meeting for ALL participants on Wednesday 5 October, 5.00pm, at the Unipol Recreation Centre. We'll go over the itinerary, discuss the gear requirements, food requirements and trip menus, and give you the opportunity to meet other participants.
