Sea Kayaking - Matanaka Peninsula & Caves
INTRODUCTION
Set off from the beaches at Karitane at low tide, paddle through the rolling surf then kayak past secluded beaches and sandstone cliffs, over kelp forests and see diverse wildlife. Supported by an experienced and knowledgeable guide, you'll paddle past breathtaking coastline viewing all the wildlife of the area, if sea conditions allow, paddle into the breathtaking Matanaka Caves to explore caverns and archways hundreds of metres high.
All participants should have previous paddling experience and have a good level of confidence in the water. This is not an activity for beginner kayakers. The sea kayaks are all sit-on-top doubles - be prepared to get wet!

NOTE: DUE TO PLANNING REQUIREMENTS THE FINAL DAY FOR ENROLMENT IS: MONDAY 26 SEPTEMBER, 12noon
If there is any doubt about the weather conditions, we will contact you before 7.30am. If postponed due to bad weather (wind and swells are the enemy here), the alternative scheduled date is the following day, SUNDAY 2nd October, at the same time, to allow for the tide changes. Please ensure you are available for both dates before enrolling as withdrawals may not be considered if you can't make the alternate date.

Kayak Karitane
WHAT IS PROVIDED AND WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
All kayak equipment, clothing, and transport is provided. Bring your lunch and/or a snack and a cold drink if you wish. Please bring a towel, bathing suit, sunglasses, sunhat and sunblock, and a change of warm clothing for after you get off the water.
Please do not bring camera equipment with you as we cannot guarantee its safety! If you wish to take photos we recommend you bring a waterproof disposable camera.

Meet at the Unipol Recreation Centre, 96 Anzac Ave at the stated start time.
