Candidates should have some experience in chemical synthesis and characterisation with an Honours or a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field with A (>80%) grades.
Techniques routinely used in the lab will include chemical synthesis, NMR, mass spec, rpHPLC and molecular modelling. Students will be expected to study the literature and write up their work in both a PhD thesis and for publication. Students will attend weekly seminars and present at least two departmental seminars.
Candidates should be able to work unsupervised and as part of a team and be willing to take on a scientific and technical challenge. Candidates are expected to obtain a scholarship from the University of Otago or elsewhere. Scholarships are for 3 years.
