Evelyn-Anne-Taylor-actionAnne Taylor was educated at Waitaki Girls' High and completed her Diploma in Physical Education at Otago in 1958. While at university, Anne was Club Captain of the University Netball Club, on the University Sports Council and a member of the University Blues Committee, providing the foundation for five decades of mostly voluntary involvement in sport and recreation.

Anne taught physical education at Hamilton Girls' before volunteering at the Hamilton YWCA. She was also heavily involved with netball, was a certified coach and umpire, and umpired the first televised netball test in 1969. Anne was President of Netball New Zealand from 1978-1987, Executive Officer for Oceania Netball from 1985-1995, was made a Life Member of Netball New Zealand in 1987, and was Vice-President and then President of the International Federation of Netball from 1989-1999.

Anne's long and distinguished career in sports administration, which also included membership of the New Zealand Council for Recreation and Sport, the Hillary Commission, the New Zealand Sports Drug Agency, and Chairperson of Bowls Waikato alongside many other involvements, was recognised by the Halberg Trust's first award for Services to Sport in 1987, and her richly deserved OBE in 1988 for services to sport and recreation.
