Community Outreach is a valued service the School provides to the wider community. Staff and students from the School work directly with organisations and programmes such as DCC Cycle Skills, Sport Otago’s Green Prescription, Swimming NZ, EXPINKT (which provides recovery clinics for breast cancer patients), and the Motor Development Clinic (for children with developmental needs).
The School’s dance studies staff run community dance and yoga classes, while the Caroline Plummer Fellowship in Community Dance provides a platform to involve the public in dance projects.
Our Applied Theory and Practice programme provides sport and exercise programmes which enable our students to put their coaching and leadership theory into practice with organisations such as the Otago Secondary Sports Association, Parafed Otago, and Sport Otago’s Coachforce, Active Families and PALS.
As a result of exposure to community service through coursework, many of our students continue community work after these modules have finished.
