Career Opportunities

The winner of the Spanish Embassy award for 2011 is Ellis Schriefer. She is planning to study in Universidad Complutense of Madrid in 2012.

Learning Spanish as a foreign language trains you in very marketable generic and specific skills: you will develop clarity in your communication, logic and deductive abilities and analysis and problem-solving skills.

With a qualification in Spanish language you can apply your skills to the fields of planning and consultancy, information sciences, the mass media, journalism, publication and advertising, finance and banking, the health sector, the tourism and hospitality industries and all levels of the education system.

Depending on the courses you choose to major in, you may be able to offer specialization in dual-language commercial management, literary and political movements and other social and cultural specifics of the Hispanic world.

Since 2001 there has been significant growth in the formal links between New Zealand, Central and South American governments, therefore language skills in Spanish will continue to be highly desirable career elements.
