About Us

We are a team of qualified professionals providing high quality health care to students of the University of Otago.

Student Health Services (SHS) is centrally located on campus in a purpose built facility. We have approximately 50 staff, comprising nurses, general practitioners, counsellors, psychiatrists and administrative staff.

Mission Statement

The mission of Student Services is to provide services which enable students to develop their full potential and reach their educational goals.

SHS will work in partnership with academic staff and other healthcare providers to deliver professional, quality, innovative, accessible services to students.

We endeavour to provide the best health care possible in a manner that is competent, compassionate, confidential, timely and in an atmosphere of mutual responsibility and respect.

We are not a Primary Health Organisation (PHO) member

Student Health is not a member of a PHO, therefore we do not receive any capitation funding for the provision of your primary health care.

You may choose to remain registered at your current GP practice/PHO and still attend Student Health.

Student Health will require you to complete an enrolment form to enable us to provide you with a full range of primary health care services and to obtain your consent to share your health information with external health care providers that are involved in your health care eg. Hospital specialists and Emergency Department.

Your feedback is welcomed as we wish to continually improve and develop our services based on the needs of our students. Please take a few moments to complete our online survey or contact us to discuss.

This includes GP, Nurse, Counselling, Psychiatry and all health information sent to us from Hospitals and Private Specialists.

Only Student Health staff that are involved in providing your healthcare will have access to your health file.
