Overview

Interest Only enrolment (called Cultural Enrolment or Personal Interest enrolment or Not-for-Credit Enrolment at some other universities) is a special category of enrolment designed to enable individuals to attend certain classes for their own general interest without undertaking any form of assessment or receiving any result or credit.

Information for applicants

Interest Only enrolment is available in limited circumstances to domestic students. This form of enrolment enables students to attend certain classes for their own general interest without undertaking any form of assessment or receiving any result or credit. Such students would normally be permitted to attend lectures only and would not normally attend tutorials, practical classes, or laboratories. They would not submit any assignments and would not sit any tests or final examinations.

The following points should be noted:

  • Specific Paper tuition fees will be payable but not the Student Services Levy.
  • Interest Only enrolment shall not normally be available to students who are also taking courses for credit in the same enrolment period (i.e. Interest Only students must be taking only Interest Only papers, and students taking papers for credit may not take additional papers for Interest Only or change their enrolment for any papers from being for credit to Interest Only part-way through a teaching period.) Any variations would need to be considered on a case by case basis and would need to involve exceptional circumstances beyond a student's control.
  • An Interest Only enrolment in a course shall not be accepted at the expense of accepting an enrolment from an eligible student who wishes to enrol for credit in the same course.
  • Interest Only enrolment shall not be available to International students.
