 University Entrance Qualification

 You can qualify for university entrance in one of the following ways:

National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA)

For students who have achieved 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or higher.

New Zealand University Entrance

For students applying on the basis of a New Zealand secondary school qualification other than NCEA (e.g. Bursaries and Scholarships examinations).

Admission Ad Eundem Statum (i.e. 'at an equivalent level')

 
  • at Entrance Level - for students applying on the basis of International Baccalaureate (IB) or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) results, overseas secondary school study, or completion of an approved Foundation Studies programme in New Zealand.
  • with Credit - for students transferring from an overseas university, or another New Zealand tertiary institution (e.g. polytechnic).
  • at Graduate Level - for students who have completed a degree or equivalent qualification overseas or at a non-university tertiary institution in New Zealand.

Discretionary Entrance

For domestic students under 20 years of age applying on the basis of NCEA Level 2 results, who do not otherwise qualify for admission.

Special Admission

For domestic students aged 20 years or over, who do not otherwise qualify for admission.
