Otago International Masters' Award

The University of Otago International Postgraduate Awards are awarded to Masters' candidates in their thesis year of study. They provide an annual emolument of $13,000 for up to 1 year, the payment of the fees at international level and partial thesis expenses.

Otago PhD Scholarships

All Doctoral students enrolling for the first time at a New Zealand university from 2006 are eligible to pay tuition fees at the New Zealand domestic level. Therefore International Doctoral students now apply on the Domestic Applications.

The University of Otago Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded to PhD candidates on the basis of academic merit, research ability and suitability within the department. They provide an emolument of $20,000 per year, the payment of fees at domestic level for up to 3 years, and partial thesis expenses.

These scholarships, which automatically include the Prestigious Scholarship, are available to both International and Domestic students.

New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID) Scholarships - tenable at the University of Otago

New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS)

New Zealand Development Scholarships are for full-time multi-year courses in New Zealand for tertiary level studies. For countries outside the Pacific, study is usually at postgraduate level, with the exception of Timor-Leste and Rapa Nui.

The NZDS scheme covers tuition, orientation fees, economy fare travel, a basic living allowance with the provision for accommodation expenses (paid through study institutions). Assistance is also provided for some course-related and basic health care costs and a dependants allowance may be provided for students with courses of study 18 months or longer.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships

Funded by the New Zealand Government, the New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships will provide up to 40 scholarships for students undertaking doctoral study in 2010.

To be eligible for a scholarship in 2010, students must:

  1. Meet the requirements for entry into a doctoral programme at a New Zealand university.
  2. Hold an 'A' grade average or it's equivalent in their tertiary studies to date.

Applications will be considered from international postgraduate students who meet the above criteria, including those who have already applied for entry to a New Zealand university. A limited number of scholarships are available to students already enrolled at a New Zealand university. Applications close 15 July 2009.
