Profile
Most of Mick's surveying work has been undertaken offshore – in Australia, the UK and Egypt, as a survey technician with a NZ Certificate in Land Surveying (NZCLS). On returning to New Zealand in the late 1980s and surveying in Nelson for several years, he decided on some re-education in 1993 at Otago. He completed a BSurv in 1995, a BA in Geography in 1996, his MSurv thesis on sustainability and district plans in 1997, and PG Certificate in Tertiary Teaching in 1999. His 2008 PhD thesis examines the river rights of the indigenous people of Canada and New Zealand. His particular surveying interests are in land law, Māori land and aboriginal title, environmental ethics, urban design and planning, and our relationship with land, property and resources.
