Cool.1.nz Vest
The cool.1.nz™ cooling vest - give yourself the competitive edge when it really counts
Many sports people compete in a hot and sometimes humid environment (i.e. 30-35+°C, 70+% relative humidity), often with little time to acclimatise. Human performance during some sports can be enhanced if body heat is minimised prior to beginning the sporting activity. Cooling vests used as pre-cooling devices provide a significant thermoregulatory advantage to athletes exercising in hot and humid environmental conditions, and also when worn after strenuous exercise in these conditions. The New Zealand Cycling and Womens' Hockey teams both performed well with the cool.1.nz™ cooling vest while at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
Cool.1.nz ™ is a low cost, easy to use, and lightweight garment that enhances cooling of the human body in a hot environment prior to and following exercise. It was developed and tested at the University of Otago Clothing and Textiles Centre and Human Performance Centre with some funding from Sport Science New Zealand.
