Postgraduate course information

All 400-level papers are taught internally; and each year at least one is taught via the distance network. This enables students who are not resident in Dunedin to enrol for postgraduate courses. Each paper runs for the whole academic year. Class meetings are held every three weeks, usually with assigned readings and preparation completed in advance of meetings.

CLTE 451 Physical Properties of Clothing and Textiles

Interactions of clothing and materials with the human body. Selected topics including waterproof fabrics, leather, composites, textile modelling, stitch joining.

CLTE 452 Social Aspects of Clothing and Textiles

Dress and society: identity, gender, culture and subculture. Dress in history: the Pacific, nineteenth century New Zealand and contemporary issues.

CLTE 453 Research Methods

Evaluation and application of methods in clothing and materials research.

CLTE 454 Clothing Materials and Workplace Injury

Materials and the design of clothing assemblies for reducing the severity and rate of workplace injury. International and national standards, legal requirements, New Zealand case studies.
