There are three staff research themes in Clothing and Textile Sciences:
- characterisation of selected fibres, fabrics, leather and clothing, and the effect of these on properties and performance (Professor R.M. Laing, Dr D.J. Carr, Dr C.A. Wilson, Dr B.J. Lowe)
- effects of clothing and textiles on human performance; preventing and/or minimising severity of injury (Professor R.M. Laing, Dr C.A. Wilson)
- clothing, textiles and society (Ms C. Smith, Dr D.J. Carr)
Research facilities
- controlled environmental chamber and conditioned space
- tactile, visual and other sensory facilities
- equipment/instrumentation for measuring properties of fibres, fabrics, and clothing
- Teaching Collection of items of nineteenth and twentieth century dress
- The Clothing and Textiles Centre with a Director (Professor R.M. Laing) and technical assistants as required on various projects, is located in the building and was established to carry out research and to provide technical and scientific expertise for the wider community
