Study Areas
Intensive banding and monitoring of productivity happens
at the breeding colonies on The Snares, Whenua Hou,
Putauhinu Island and Taiaroa Head. Baseline plots for
monitoring population trends are being set up at 20 manu
(harvested areas) and at 5 additional unharvested sites
spread throughout the 36 Titi Islands. Annual "benchmark"
studies on Putauhinu, our intensive study site, will be used
to factor out effects of inter-annual variation on spot
samples we measured in just one year.
