What academic qualifications do I need to get admission to Foundation Year?
Foundation Year is designed to meet your need to gain entry to university.
To be admitted to university, you must have met the:
- English language requirements for admission
and - Academic qualifications for admission
The table below shows the minimum academic qualifications you need to be eligible to apply for a place in the University of Otago Foundation Year.

- When admissions receive your application admissions look at the academic subjects you have studied
- The minimum entry requirement is usually an average grade in academic subjects with a minimum grade in mathematics.
- Mathematics is important if you want to study Health Sciences, Science or Commerce at undergraduate level at university
- Forecast results are accepted where appropriate
