Partnerships between the Veterans' Health Research theme and the Defence Community

The University of Otago has established several partnerships with the Defence Force community. It is currently seeking “preferred provider” status with New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

Memorandum of Understanding with the New Zealand Defence Force

As a result of strong historical connections and further relationship building and initiatives, the University of Otago and the NZDF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in February 2012.

The MOU subject area is broad and includes:

  • Science (including systems and design, human factors and performance, occupational and environmental medicine, technology and innovation, clothing and textile development)
  • Security
  • Peace and conflict studies
  • International relations
  • Health care needs of veterans, serving personnel and their families in New Zealand
  • International research and best practice in these areas

The Canadian Institute of Military and Veteran Health Research

Otago is an International Affiliate of CIMVHR.

Their mission: To enhance the lives of Canadian military personnel, Veterans and their families by harnessing the national capacity for reseach.
