Welcome to the University of Otago, Wellington
The University of Otago, Wellington, is a nationally significant health sciences campus based at the Wellington Regional Hospital precinct in Newtown. As part of the University of Otago’s Health Sciences Division and the world-renowned Otago Medical School, we are focused on providing excellence and leadership in research and teaching across a range of health professional disciplines, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
We teach and host undergraduate medical, dietetics, dental, pharmacy and physiotherapy students and are New Zealand’s only provider of Radiation Therapy training. At postgraduate level we lead or contribute to the training of medical specialists in a range of disciplines, in partnership with local District Health Boards and professional Colleges. We also provide a diverse range of research-informed national and international clinical and public health postgraduate courses for health professionals including nurses, general practitioners, pharmacists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and social workers.
Our staff strive to disseminate research evidence and clinical knowledge to our communities, policy makers and government and non-government agencies. Our taught teaching programmes are supported by our national and international leaders in health research, who also provide research supervision for our seventy PhD students and 20 Masters thesis students.
At the University of Otago Wellington we are proud of our strong relationships with health service providers including local District Health Boards Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley Health, others such as MidCentral Health, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki, Wairarapa DHBs. We are also well supported by primary care providers who welcome our students to their clinics.
