Medical Education Unit at the University of Otago, Wellington
The Medical Education Unit is responsible for course development and maintenance of standards of teaching and assessment within the MB ChB degree at the University of Otago, Wellington. Two committees are instrumental in this process: the Curriculum Monitoring and Evaluation Committee which meets four times a year and the Trainee Intern Curriculum Board, which meet monthly. The committees consist of both staff and student representatives.
A vital part of the process of curriculum development is liaison, with work being undertaken by the Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty is exploring ways in which the curriculum for all three Schools of Medicine (of which the University of Otago, Wellington is one) might keep up to date with changes in medical education. This has been shown to have benefits for students.
The University of Otago, Wellington has a central involvement in the Medical Education Development Unit, which is coordinating the planning and design of a new curriculum. Itis also involved in other committees that report to the Faculty Education Committee.
