Department of Public Health
The Department of Public Health works to improve, promote and protect health and to reduce health inequalities through research, teaching and community service. We strive to carry out our work in partnership with communities, honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori sovereignty.
Our People
The Department is distinctive in its breadth of academic disciplines, research interests, and its links with national and regional health agencies.
Research
The Department carries out research on critical public health issues, using multiple quantitative and qualitative methodologies, with a wide range of academic, governmental and non-governmental sector and community partners.
Undergraduate Teaching
The Department contributes to the fourth year medical curriculum and also offers the Certificate in Health Promotion - a four paper qualification.
Postgraduate Programmes
The Department has a large and dynamic programme of postgraduate research study at Certificate, Diploma, Masters and PhD level including the Certificate in Public Health, the Diploma in Public Health and the Masters of Public Health.
Public Health Summer School
The Department runs a highly successful annual short course summer school in February each year.
