pacific-newsThe HRC is pleased to announce five new Pacific health research awards, which will be made available this year. Pacific health research helps to build the capacity and capability of Pacific peoples in research, and contributes to the Pacific knowledge base.

The HRC Board has approved funding for two Pacific Emerging Researcher First Grants to the value of $150,000 each, a Pacific Clinical Research Training Fellowship, as well as another Pacific Postdoctoral Fellowship and Pacific PhD Scholarship. This investment is an opportunity to help Pacific health researchers build the skills and experience needed to develop a long-term career in their chosen field of health research.

The Emerging Researcher First Grants will enable Pacific researchers currently in employment to undertake health research projects that address priority Pacific health needs. The Clinical Research Training Fellowship will provide an opportunity for medical, dental and allied Pacific health professionals to undertake a PhD or equivalent qualification. Both of these awards will be based on similar criteria to the HRC's current Emerging Researcher First Grants and Clinical Research Training Fellowships, but with a specific Pacific focus.

Further details about these new awards will be published in Update, in the HRC's Pacific newsletter, and on the HRC website in the following months.

Please note that the Sir Thomas Davis Te Patu Kite Rangi Ariki Health Research Fellowship will now be offered annually. This Pacific fellowship, which was introduced for the first time last year (initially as a one-off), provides support for up to two years for a researcher whose work has the potential to contribute to the health and economic goals of the government's investment in research, science, and technology.
