Study Occupational and Aviation Medicine

Welcome to the Occupational and Aviation Medicine Unit, part of the University of Otago, Wellington.
The University of Otago Wellington offers a wide range of occupational medicine, aviation medicine and aeromedical retrieval and transport courses for both doctors and allied health professionals. Information about all of these can be accessed here.
Teaching is through an IT interactive distance programme and there is no formal study held in New Zealand. All "live" teaching is undertaken by audioconference and all course materials are available online. Students are only required to leave their normal areas of work to attend the annual week-long Residential School . These vary in location with recent Schools held in Portugal, New Zealand, Scotland, Dubai, Canada, Brazil and Beijing.
Personal research is also undertaken by students enrolled with the Department as part of their Diploma, Masters and PhD programmes. However as there is no aerospace medicine laboratory at the University of Otago, Wellington, students' research is based at a facility of their choosing.
Staff of the Occupational and Aviation Medicine Unit are located around the world and form part of an "international department". This permits a collegial learning and research environment without the large overheads of a dedicated teaching and research unit.
This page is your portal to a number of different areas where you can download the prospectuses and other course information for occupational and aviation medicine qualifications and courses offered by this Unit as well as further information on how to enrol, contact staff etc. Please refer to the links to the left of this page.
