Becoming a Otago Zebrafish Facility User

If you want to carry out your own zebrafish research, you can “rent a tank”. This involves taking responsibility for the management of your fish.

You will need to complete the University of Otago Zebrafish Facility training module, which is compliant with the University's Animal Welfare Office regulations and a requirement of the Animal Ethics Committee. The theoretical training material is accessed online and concludes with an online test. Following a successful test outcome, you will undertake a practical fish-handling course with Facility staff.

For research applications beyond those described in our Standard Protocol, you will need to apply separately to the Animal Ethics Committee.

As a first step towards becoming a facility user, please contact the Zebrafish Facility Director at julia.horsfield@otago.ac.nz
