Queen's Birthday Weekend Programme

Union Common Room - 4:00pm–8:00pm

Commemorative packs are available for those who are interested at a cost of $65.00.

The pack includes a copy of the recently written history “Otago, 150 Years of New Zealand’s First University”, a commemorative lapel badge, a name tag, map, weekend programme and other University related material. It can be collected on Friday night from the Union Common Room, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.

University of Otago Staff Club - 4:00pm–8:00pm

The University Staff Club will be open throughout the long weekend for tea, coffee, light lunches and bar refreshments. It will be open on Friday evening for bar refreshments and snacks.

To book a devonshire tea, please contact the Staff Club; staff.club@otago.ac.nz.

Otago Museum, 150th University of Otago Exhibition Opening - 7:00pm–9:00pm

The exhibition is open to all and showcases 150 years of research, creative works and their benefits to our global community.

The Exhibition will run from Friday 31 May – October 2019.

Saturday 1 June 2019

Campus tours, Clocktower 10:00am–12:00pm

Please indicate if you are interested in a tour and we will contact you regarding your allocated time. Campus maps are available for those wanting to do their own tour and volunteers will be on hand to assist with directions and which buildings will be opened.

Academic Procession, Dunedin School of Dentistry to Dunedin Town Hall – 1:30pm

We encourage you to join us on the Academic Procession. Graduates are welcome to hire academic dress for the occasion.

This would be at an additional cost and you would need to contact academic.dress@otago.ac.nz regarding your appropriate regalia, payment and collection arrangements.

Convocation Ceremony, Dunedin Town Hall - 2:30pm–4:00pm

A formal gathering recognising and celebrating the University of Otago's academic achievements.

Reserved seating has been allocated upstairs for alumni, friends and family. Seating downstairs has been reserved for guests with mobility requirements.

Fireworks Celebrating 150 years, The Octagon - 6:30pm

A birthday salute to the people of Dunedin in recognition of the role the city has played in the development of the University. Please join us in the Octagon at 6:30pm to celebrate this event.

At the conclusion of the fireworks, those attending the Anniversary Dinner will be lead into the main entrance of the Town Hall by a local piper.

Anniversary Dinner(s), Dunedin Town Hall - 7:00pm–12:00am

Guest reservations will be handled in a first-in-first served basis.

If you require a table of ten please notify us as soon as possible so that we can make the appropriate arrangements. You will need to provide a list of ten attendees for this to be actioned. Payment must be made in full to secure any dinner reservations.

Some tables will be reserved, the rest of the table seating plan will be general seating.

Dress is black tie optional.

Knox Church service - 10:00am–11:15am

A celebratory service at which everyone is welcome will be held at Knox Church. The service will consist of a Māori welcome, readings, a massed choir, a Pacific Islands Choir and conclude with a release of doves from the Knox Church garden.

After the service, morning tea will be provided in the Knox Church Halls. Also, the Staff Club and other local cafes will be open for morning tea, brunch and light lunches. The Staff Club will also be offering a devonshire tea for those who have pre-booked.

Residential College lunches - 12:00pm-1:30pm

For Residential College Alumni wishing to attend their college for lunch, please indicate your attendance on the registration form and you will be contacted by the college regarding arrangements.

Campus Tours - 2:00pm–4:00pm

Gala Concert, Dunedin Town Hall - 7:00pm

Bookings for the ‘Celebration of the University of Otago in Music’ are to be made through Ticketmaster.

Purchase your tickets, ($25.00) per head.

Forsyth Barr Stadium Tours - 10:00am-12:00pm

Arrangements have been for those who are interested in a tour of the Forsyth Barr Stadium. Please indicate if you are interested and we will contact you regarding your tour. Tours will be 45 - 60 minutes duration.

University Oval, Cameron Shield Rugby Match 2:00pm–4:00 pm

A well established rivalry exists between Selwyn College and Knox College who battle it out on the rugby field for the infamous Cameron Shield.

Please join us for this traditional sporting encounter.
