SUMMARY:Bioethics Seminar |"Caught napping”: New Zealand’s response to the 1967 UK Abortion Act
DESCRIPTION:
2017 marks 50 years since the passing of the 1967 UK Abortion Act which widened access to medical abortion. This paper explores the impact of that Act in New Zealand which, in effect, led to the Restrictive Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act of 1977.
I argue that the English reform spurred conservative groups into action to prevent liberalisation of the abortion law in New Zealand. Speaker: Professor Barbara Brookes

LOCATION:Bioethics Seminar Room, Level one, 71 Frederick Street (entry on Frederick Street). Dunedin. Also video-linked Christchurch and Wellington campus.
