DESCRIPTION:The School of Geography at the University of Otago is pleased to invite you to the annual Ron Lister Memorial Lecture. It will be presented by Professor Rewi Newman from Victoria University Wellington, the topic is: The Power of Pollen. The focus of his talk is on two very different applications of palynology that will be of special interest to geographers: Paleo-palynology – investigating fossil pollen preserved in sediments as a tool for understanding how and why environments have changed in the past; andAeropalynology – investigating airborne pollen as a key environmental factor in triggering or exacerbating allergic reactions such as hayfever and asthma.The event will be preceded by a small reception at 5pm in the room opposite the entrance to the Moot Court.
