SUMMARY:Bioethics seminar – Negotiating death at the margins: Assisted dying, access, and equity
DESCRIPTION:This presentation shares findings from New Zealand&rsquo;s largest assisted dying study involving 96 participants across the assisted dying process. The presentation will provide an overview of the assisted dying system to examine whether commitments to safety, accessibility, and equity are enabled in law, policy and practice. It foregrounds disability perspectives and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations to consider what an ethically responsive assisted dying system might look like. Speaker: Dr Jessica YoungDr Jessica Young is a sociologist and Senior Research Fellow at Victoria University of Wellington and an adjunct senior lecturer in the Australian Centre for Health Law Research, Queensland University of Technology. She leads and contributes to several projects on assisted dying, most recently &lsquo;Exploring the early experiences of the assisted dying service in Aotearoa&rsquo;, with $1.4m of funding from the Health Research Council.
