The University of Otago acknowledges and embraces the essential life-blood that postgraduate students bring to a research-intensive university such as Otago and is very pleased to offer Abbey College as an exceptional 'home away from home' for these students.
Abbey College opened in February 2008 and offers New Zealand and international postgraduates an unrivalled residential experience in support of their academic endeavours. The College is home to around 80 residents at any one time, accommodating both single students and couples. As we are not large, residents enjoy Abbey’s personable approach.
The College has developed a rich, multi-national and welcoming community spirit with a strong academic heart. Abbey’s residents enjoy a safe, supportive and collegial environment where staff and residents enjoy mutual respect for each other.
Fully catered for 365 days of the year, residents can focus on their studies and other activities without having to spend time attending to shopping for food, cooking and cleaning up.
Our academic and social activities provide opportunities for fostering intellectual challenge and forging new friendships both at the College and within the wider postgraduate community at the University.
Residents have study and research interests that reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the University and make for interesting and stimulating discussions on a variety of topics.
