Clinical and basic science collaboration: Untapped potential

Speakers

  • Professor Rajesh Katare, Department of Physiology
  • Professor Patrick Manning, Department of Medicine
  • Dr Sean Coffey, Department of Medicine

This seminar will illustrate how collaboration between the Departments of Medicine and Physiology has resulted in successful research outcomes for both the researchers and their respective departments.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences in target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or degradation. Their dysregulation has been implicated in a variety of metabolic and cardiovascular disorders.

Professors Katare and Manning will discuss the relevance of miRNAs to human health, while Dr Coffey will discuss a collaborative translational medicine clinical trial conducted in Dunedin.

All Te Whatu Ora and University of Otago staff and students are welcome to attend.
