English and Linguistics Seminar: Pioneering students: Early Modern Swedish Students 1660–1729 and Women at Uppsala University 1872–2027
The talk presents two independent research projects, both relating to students and to formative periods in Swedish history: the struggle for European power in the 17th century and the peaceful development of a progressive welfare state in the 20th century. During both periods students were important as a potential future elite and also remarkably active as writers and authors whose careers were often promoted by literary interests, both in the 17th and the 20th century.
