The Otago Business School's Department of Accountancy and Finance are used to playing the numbers game, but one number they are particularly pleased about is
their recent world top 100 ranking in the 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject. The recently merged department has proven to be truly world class being one of 12 departments within the
University of Otago to reach the QS Top 100, reinforcing the University's standing as an internationally leading research and teaching institution across a broad range of disciplines.
The QS World University Rankings is a multi-faceted view of relative strengths, taking into account academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citation per faculty and internationalisation
(International faculty ratio and international student ratio). "Our students should feel confident that, when they graduate, they will be more than prepared to take their place on the
international stage with their peers from around the world", says Professor Harlene Hayne, Vice Chancellor.
Professor Colin Campbell-Hunt, who has recently joined the Department as its Head, is not surprised at the international acknowledgement. "The Department has greatly improved its research performance over the last few years and showed significant advances in the latest PBRF round.
I am so impressed by the energetic and collaborative approach taken by my new colleagues to their research and teaching. This is a place where new ideas are greeted with interest and enthusiasm and everybody gains from that."
