Rufia Huang imageMaster of Finance graduate

Taking a rather unconventional finance career path, the MFinc was a perfect stepping stone into the world of Finance. After completing an honours degree in mechanical engineering, the technical and mathematical skills gained from my undergraduate degree enabled me to transition into the Master of Finance at Otago. Having supportive and motivated lecturers during the course definitely made this journey much smoother and provided the motivation to quickly learn the finance-specific jargon.

The combination of coursework papers and a dedicated dissertation offered through the MFinc provide an excellent grounding for a variety of opportunities in the finance industry. The diversity and depth of the Masters papers means that you come out of the degree with a broad skill-set that prepares you well for a competitive industry. The statistical modelling and theoretical mathematics papers build a valuable technical skill foundation. Frequent classroom presentations and written assignments develop the equally important interpersonal skills needed for team projects and client interactions.
