Professor Paul Griffin is a leading international authority in accounting, financial information, and disclosure.

He has published over 80 articles in leading accounting and finance journals, five research monographs for the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and two case books on U.S. corporate financial reporting. His research has had a substantial impact on the profession. His publications in accounting and finance focus mainly on how financial markets anticipate and respond to financial disclosures and news events. His current research extends this focus to how firms' non-financial news items on carbon emissions and extreme weather events affect their disclosure practices and market values.

Griffin earned his PhD in accounting and MA in operations research and economic theory at The Ohio State University.

In addition to his University of Otago appointment as Honorary Professor, Paul Griffin holds the position of Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Davis, USA.
