Support the Faculty of Dentistry

Founded in 1907, the Faculty of Dentistry—Te Kaupeka Pūniho, is New Zealand's only Dental School and the country's National Centre for Dentistry. Our mission is to pursue excellence in research, and to provide high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education and training – to improve health nationally and internationally.

Dental chair campaign

The Faculty of Dentistry has partnered with Dentsply Sirona, who will be supplying us with 250 new high specification dental chairs.

You can make your mark on a new dental chair, your donation of $5,000 towards the cost of a new dental chair will be acknowledged with an engraved plaque. Each plaque will be attached to one of the new chairs for the entirety of its service.

We also welcome donations of all sizes towards the Faculty of Dentistry's Above and Beyond campaign. Modernising our equipment to create a digitally integrated national centre for dentistry is expensive, and we would appreciate your support.

Our teaching and research improves oral health

We train: Oral Health Therapists; Dental Technicians; Dentists; Dental Specialists; and Researchers.

We provide best-practice dental services to the Dunedin community, undertaking over 80,000 patient consultations each year.

Our clinical services building

A $130 million extreme makeover of the Faculty of Dentistry is in progress that will make us the most technologically advanced dental facility in Australasia for teaching, research, and providing community oral health care. The redevelopment programme will include a new Clinical Services Building and refurbishment of the heritage-listed Walsh Building on Great King Street and the establishment of a community clinic in South Dunedin called Te Kāika.

New Dental School

When the project is completed we will have:

  • 250 new, high specification dental chairs – a digitally integrated environment, with an expanded and enhanced operating theatre suite.
  • World-class research facilities to support our world-leading researchers and teachers.

Clinics in the new Dentistry building

Construction of the Clinical Services Building has started and is expected to be completed by late-2018. After the new facility is finished, the Walsh building will be vacated and refurbished, by the third quarter of 2019. It will include research laboratories, academic offices, student support facilities, and teaching laboratories.
