The Sustainable Futures Initiative is a major new development built around research into a vitally important set of issues – issues that are urgent for us locally, are of major significance for New Zealand and resonate globally.
Central to this new initiative will be the construction of a state-of-the-art, publically accessible harbour side facility. This new facility will provide a common home for existing and new activity focused on sustainability including a Chair in Sustainable Futures and developing innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and research programmes.
The celebration of our 150th anniversary provides an exciting opportunity for the local, national, and international community to support a bold investment that:
- Is daring, innovative and unique
- Harnesses our distinctive tradition, our research strengths, and our unique place in the world
- Creates social, cultural, economic and environmental value for current and future generations
Woven from our foundational threads of research, education and engagement, this community-focused vision is to make an international commitment to kaitiakitanga and sustainable futures.
