The spectacular and stately Grand Foyer of the Auckland War Memorial Museum was the setting for the Auckland Gala event held to celebrate the University’s 150th anniversary.
The event organised by the Auckland Alumni Advisory Board showcased the talent of many alumni with performances from cellist Dora Green, vocalists Lani Alo and Antoinette Tuipe’a, and singer-songwriter Jan Hellriegel and her band.
Ngati Whatua formally welcomed guests to the event and the CEO of the Auckland Museum, Dr David Gaimster also extended a welcome to the Museum. The University’s Chancellor, Dr Royden Somerville QC and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Harlene Hayne spoke about the current developments at the University and thanked everyone for joining to celebrate 150 years of daring to be wise.
The evening concluded with a large number of guests taking to the dance floor where they danced to the songs they submitted as being those of their University days.
The Scarfie spirit was evident during the evening and still obviously connects Otago alumni with each other.
