Thank you to everyone who has recently donated to the University, especially supporters of our Scholarships, EXPINKT™, and Alzheimer’s research appeals. The University received a 22 per cent increase in scholarship applications for 2020 and your donations help make sure that every student who needs a scholarship can get one.
Where does the funding go?
Alumni Student Scholarships
These scholarships help ease the burden of the cost of tertiary education, and can mean the difference between a student choosing to go to university or not.
This is a top priority for the University and the annual giving programme. Recent areas of research have included Alzheimer’s and the Marine Science programme.
Music, Theatre and Performing Arts Centre
This NZ $28 million project is nearing completion and will be ready for students to begin using it in the first semester of next year. You can still help put the finishing touches on this new space by making a donation.
EXPINKT™ (Exercise Training Beyond Breast Cancer)
Congratulations to Dee Hall, Creina Beaman, Lucy Warren and Nicki Swift for walking the Queenstown Half Marathon in mid-November to raise funds for this unique service. Creina says the walk was “fantastic – the weather only drizzled and it was such an amazing event in a stunning location. We’re really proud!” Their go-to saying was “we’re athletes!”
The four friends met through Otago’s EXPINKT™ exercise training beyond breast cancer gym and have been training for the walk and fundraising for the gym for the past six months. They’re pictured here with Aprille Mincher their EXPINKT™ personal trainer who ran the full marathon, from left: Nicki, Dee, Aprille, Lucy and Creina. For more information about the gym visit: https://www.otago.ac.nz/alumni/donate/150thfundraising.html
From their walk they raised more than $2,000 towards EXPINKT™.
