In November about 100 former students came from around New Zealand to attend the 50th anniversary reunion of University College (UniCol), which was a University of Otago centenary project in 1969. At the time it was the largest university residential college in Australasia.
The reunion began with a BBQ and events ran throughout the weekend.
A highlight was the unveiling of the UniCol Alumni Wall of Fame, featuring a host of inspiring alumni, including Nigel Latta, Anton Oliver, Professor Mark Henaghan and Judge Annis Somerville – the first Māori Family Court judge in New Zealand and relation of the University’s first Chancellor the Thomas Burns, and the sister of our current Chancellor Dr Royden Somerville QC.
The wall features 30 inspiring alumni so far. UniCol plans to continue adding to the wall to inspire current students to feel heightened pride in UniCol, believe in themselves, and aspire to great things.
The Master, Andy Walne, has requested nominations of UniCol alumni to feature on the wall. You can send your nominations to unicol@otago.ac.nz
The wall, which has pride of place in UniCol’s ground floor social common room, will also be going online soon!
