The University of Otago was privileged to be able to hold an alumni event at Trinity College at the University of Cambridge. Alumni of the University, Professors Emeriti Robin Carrell and Roger Paulin, were hosts for the event and warmly welcomed everyone to the spectacular surroundings.
To be able to celebrate Otago’s 150th anniversary with alumni in such historic surroundings was a great pleasure. While the history of Trinity College and its university is centuries older than Otago’s, guests were able to acknowledge the shared visions of both institutions to provide world-class educational opportunities.
Chancellor, Dr Royden Somerville, QC, provided details about the history of the establishment of the University, its early days, and of those Otago alumni who made their way during their lives to Cambridge University. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Harlene Hayne, focused on where the University sits today and spoke about current developments, successes in teaching and research, and plans for the future.
The lunch was a wonderful opportunity for alumni to share memories and stories of time spent at Otago, and possibly make plans for a return.
