The University of Otago’s Edinburgh alumni function, held in the beautiful Lady Provost’s Room at the City Chambers, was a return to Scotland after many years. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate the University’s 150th anniversary, and the link between the University and its alumni.
The Lord Provost, the Right Honourable Frank Ross, warmly welcomed alumni to the venue and spoke about the important relationship that has been developed through the mutual desire of both Edinburgh and Dunedin cities to provide educational opportunities for not only its citizens, but for those beyond the city boundaries.
Chancellor, Dr Royden Somerville, QC, provided further details about the history of the establishment of the University and its early days. While Vice-Chancellor, Professor Harlene Hayne spoke about current developments and plans for the future.
The evening was a wonderful opportunity for alumni to share memories and stories of time spent at Otago and possibly make plans for a return.
