Hong Kong alumni event 2019

Tuesday 10 September 2019 9:34am

The 65th floor setting of the New Zealand Consulate-General Office in central Hong Kong provided the perfect setting for our alumni and friends to gather to celebrate the University’s 150th anniversary.

40 Hong Kong-based alumni and friends of the University of Otago were welcomed to the New Zealand setting by Consul-General Carl Worker, and were treated to the fabulous views of Hong Kong from this vantage point.

For many guests the event was an opportunity to reconnect with others in Hong Kong who had also experienced the Otago way of life. For others it was the chance to make new connections with fellow Otago alumni. Many of the conversations centred on a shared understanding and experience of student life in Dunedin.

The Chancellor, Dr Royden Somerville QC, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Nicholson, spoke about the University’s illustrious past, and outstanding contributions to local, national and international communities, as well as providing information about current developments and plans for the future.

Photos were taken, plans for future get togethers were made, and the Otago spirit was rekindled nearly ten thousand miles from where it first started.
