Kuala Lumpur alumni event 2019

Tuesday 10 September 2019 9:48am

Nearly 100 Malaysia-based alumni and friends of the University of Otago attended a celebration of the University’s 150th on 26 August at the Official Residence of New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Hunter Nottage. It was a privilege to be welcomed to the event by the High Commissioner and to able to hold the event in such a special venue with reminders of New Zealand that helped to create a nostalgic setting.

Nostalgia was further provided by a backdrop of rolling images of the University, both current and historic, played on a big screen. Photos in front of the images and with the University’s 150th banner were popular, as were the sharing of Otago stories and memories, and reconnecting with fellow alumni.

The Chancellor, Dr Royden Somerville QC, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Nicholson, spoke about the University’s illustrious past, and outstanding contributions to local, national and international communities, as well as providing information about current developments and plans for the future.

During the remainder of the evening, guests were able to reconnect with those who were at Otago at the same time as they were, and make new connections with other alumni.
