The University of Otago is urging alumni and supporters to be wary of outside organisations offering access to enhanced graduate services and networks.
Otago has been advised that organisations purporting to offer access or services related to its alumni networks have been contacting New Zealand graduates.
The University would like to state that it is NOT affiliated with organisations such as the International Alumni Association and the Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni (WANA) – the latter recently contacted graduates from another New Zealand university offering a professional alumni network service for a fee.
The University of Otago would like to clarify that this activity, and the offer of access to these services, is not aligned with its ongoing alumni engagement programme.
Please be cautious about any online advertising via Facebook, Facebook messages and/or unsolicited emails using our branding/logo you may receive from an organisation claiming to be affiliated with, or representing, the University of Otago which offer alumni services for a fee.
Some of these organisations also;
• Call from overseas (USA/North America) to conduct a “Qualification Interview"
• Solicit payments over the phone via credit card to join their University Alumni Association.
The University of Otago would NOT ask you complete these tasks to join its networks.
Instead, the Development and Alumni Relations Office will only ever ask you to update details via our secure form, support funding initiatives, or participate in events via clearly identified emails, or directly via forms on its webpage.
News and events - accessed via our Alumni and Friends webpage.
The Otago alumni community is open to all graduates, former students and staff, and we offer access to events, and provide communications and networking opportunities for no membership fee.
We encourage you to contact us should you have questions about the authenticity of any of our communications.
