Research
In her role as an Assistant Research Fellow, Stacey is assisting with repatriating Indigenous skeletal remains (kōiwi tangata) held at the University of Otago to their traditional homelands. This work includes bioarchaeological data collection, historical research and management of the Wahi Tapu resting place for skeletal remains.
Stacey’s recently completed PhD research used a holistic bioarchaeological approach to investigate how the rise of social inequality affected health in late Iron Age northeast Thailand.
Stacey's master's work involved analysing cremated skeletal remains from historic Laos to determine what mortuary practices were used in this period.
Additional details
Stacey has extensive archaeological excavation experience including two years' archaeological contracting work. She has worked in New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Israel, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.
