The BEATS Study investigates transport to school habits, the neighbourhood environment and physical activity of Otago students aged between 13 and 18 years. The study will survey students and parents and interview the school principal at each participating school.
If your son’s or daughter’s school has agreed to take part in this study, both you and your son or daughter may be approached to participate. Parents can choose to participate in the BEATS Parental Survey even if their son or daughter does not take part in the BEATS Student Survey.
This study is a collaboration between by the University of Otago, the Dunedin Secondary Schools' Partnership, Dunedin City Council and New Zealand Transport Agency.
- The study is planned to take place during 2018/2019 in the rural Otago secondary schools.
- The study will be conducted in Dunedin secondary schools in 2019/2020.
If you and your son or daughter are invited to participate, we very much hope that you will be able to take part in this study.
This study is an extension of the Dunedin’s BEATS Study (2013-2017). A summary of the published BEATS Study findings to date is available here.
