Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease Carers

We are currently seeking volunteers to take part in a study to determine what makes a carer effective, the skills and resources involved, and how to make carers feel valued. The participants must be available to take part in a single 60 minute interview at a time and venue convenient to them.

In order to qualify for this study the participant must care for an individual who is:

  • 65 years of age or older
  • has dementia or Alzheimer's Disease

Cognitive Aging: Benefits of Brain Stimulation

BHRC researchers are looking for volunteers to participate in a research project that will explore the effect of a non-invasive brain stimulation technique on cognitive performance. Participants will be asked to attend two 1-hour sessions, exactly one week apart, and will receive $20 for each session. All sessions will be held in the Psychology Department at the University of Otago.
The researchers are seeking participants who meet these criteria:

  • Right-handed
  • Aged between 65 and 69 years
  • No history of seizures
  • No history of psychological or neurological diseases/disorders
  • No chronic skin conditions
  • Comfortable having rubber electrodes placed on their head
  • Not colour-blind
