Dr Anita Dunbier will be giving a public talk about aspirin and breast cancer as part of a presentation by up-and-coming researchers at the University of Otago.

The O-Zone Group is presenting a one hour programme of six speakers who have distinguished themselves as early career researchers. Each presenter will give a glimpse into their research and explain how their work benefits the public. The talks last six minutes each followed by a brief time for questions.

The event is being held on Wednesday 15 July, from 5.30-6.30pm at the Barnett Lecture Theatre in Dunedin Hospital. The presentations will be followed by drinks and nibbles to allow guests to meet and talk with the researchers. There is no cost to attend.

The titles of the talks are:

  • One man's trash is another man's treasure: discovering new markers for heart disease in 'junk DNA'
Dr Anna Pilbrow, Christchurch Heart Institute, Department of Medicine
  • What can scientific drilling into active faults tell us about earthquakes and resources?
Dr Virginia Toy, Department of Geology
  • What is the law of contract all about?
Associate Professor Jessica Palmer, Faculty of Law
  • Taking another look in the medicine chest: new approaches to old drugs for breast cancer treatment
Dr Anita Dunbier, Department of Biochemistry
  • Contradictions
Dr Zach Weber, Department of Philosophy
  • The most unexpected journey of all: A legacy of prematurity?
Dr Max Berry, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health
