Dr Sarah Diermeier leads a highly successful group in the Department of Biochemistry that carries out research into cancer and RNA biology. Three former students from Sarah’s research group graduate with their PhDs this week. The department has been enjoying catching up with them and their plans for life after study.

Sarah’s first PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry, Brandon Wright, is now an AI and data consultant with Deloitte in Wellington.

Kathleen Lucere works part-time at Amaroq Therapeutics, the lncRNA cancer therapeutics company set up by Sarah last year, and part-time with Matū, an investment firm.

And Megan O‘Malley, currently working with Amaroq until the end of January, will be moving to Melbourne to start a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre with the breast cancer research legend Sherene Loi.

Congratulations to all of you, and to Sarah too for all your hard work guiding these science stars into their new careers!
